In early December, Eagle Nation became aware of some sad, in some ways, and proud, in some ways, news.
Our School Resource Officer, Deputy John O’Brien, is leaving Grandview for a new and exciting position.
Officer O will work as a Diplomatic Security Special Agent with the U.S. Department of State. His job will be to protect vital interests, workers, and ambassadors in U.S. embassies worldwide. When you think about it, his new position seem very similar to his role here.
This change in career was not taken lightly. To be chosen for this position, Officer O had to complete a writing sample test, a multiple choice computer test, and a panel interview. Then, he had to complete extensive medical tests, a physical ability test, and a rigorous background investigation. A process that took well over a year to complete.
When asked if he had any words for Grandview, he stated, “I would like to thank the Eagle Nation for giving me the opportunity to work in your district! Grandview is a unique place full of great kids and dedicated staff. I wish you all the best!”
Deputy O’Brien’s last official day assigned to Grandview was Friday, January 12. His replacement, Thomas Smogorzewski, is set to begin on Tuesday, January 16. Join us in wishing Deputy O’Brien safety and congratulations for achieving his dream and in welcoming Deputy Thomas Smogorzewski to Eagle Nation.
